Kate arrived home from an outing around 6pm last night. It was about 20 minutes before that when I remembered that our friends, The Dreamscapes Project, were playing a show at a new music venue in DC. So, I covered up the dinner that was cooking on the stove and we jumped in the car.
The Hamilton Live is about a two block walk from the Metro Center station which is pretty damn quick. I normally hate going into DC but I will sometimes venture over there if there’s something I really want to do. Why do I hate going into DC? Well, there’s no particularly good way to get there. The local traffic makes for a terrible drive and parking isn’t cheap. The Metro is an alternative to driving but it has it’s own issues. Either way, it takes us about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get into the middle of the District. I can pretty much drive from our house to Baltimore in about the same amount of time.
We arrived at The Hamilton around 7:30pm and found it to be quite a swanky restaurant. We walked through the main dining area and then headed to a set of stairs that went down to where the music venue was. While it didn’t feel as upper class as the dining area, it was still quite comfortable and nicely laid out. It reminded me a lot of the Birchmere which is another venue that I like quite a bit.
Opening up for the The Dreamscapes Project was Taylor Carson and his band. The music they played is firmly set in the indy rock genre but you also get a tasty of country and roots rock. I was pleased enough with their set that I ended up buying their latest CD, Defending The Name, which was also rather well done.
The Dreamscapes Project played one of the best shows that I’ve ever seen them play over the ten years that I’ve known them. Every time I think they set a bar for themselves, they raise it just that much further at their next show. It was also quite a treat to hear them going through such a nice sound system. You can check out all the pictures that I took if you go over to my Picasa page.
After a terrible ride home on the Metro, we stumbled into the house a bit after Midnight. Somehow I ended up getting out a bed at around 8am and was surprised to see that Kate was up as well. I ended up having some breakfast and then we decided it was time to bottle our first batch of beer. While it’s not carbonated just yet, I took a taste from the keg and it was pretty darn good! We’ll get to have the finished product in a week or two. I posted some pictures below of what this part of the process was like so that you can check it out. Enjoy!
