So Little Time…

With various new projects growing before me, I’m spending a lot of time working on balancing out my time. All of that has made the comic a bit slow going which is why it was up late on Monday and why I’m postponing today’s comic till tomorrow. These things happen, I guess.

One of the things that I’m putting more time into is sound design. It’s something that I enjoy doing and it may prove to bring in more revenue than some of my other ventures. All these things that I do cost money and that has to come from somewhere. While Kate has been quite gracious as my benefactor, I would like to see myself becoming more self sufficient.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’m confident in the work that I do. I’m just starting feel that it’s time that I use these skills towards having more income on the business side. As I said, I really need to work at balancing things out. While that’s not a difficult thing to do, it does take some time. I hope to have everything under control by the end of the year.

Tis The Season!

No matter how you celebrate the month of December, spending time with the ones you care about should be a part of it. Sometimes it’s easy to forget about the people who are important in your life but it only takes a moment of laughter in their presence to remind you of what this Christmas spirit thing is about.

Last night was the annual Owain Phyfe Mead Extravaganza that my friends Jon and Marie hold each year. It’s one of those parties that let’s me visit with some of my friends that I don’t see nearly as often as I should. I really feel that the people I meet while on this life’s journey are part of my family. So, if you remember do to anything this month, please take some time out to visit with those people that you call friends. That’s the best gift you can give anyone.

My Day With a New Friend

A new guitar is kind of like gaining a new friend. Well, musical instruments are like that in general. I often don’t find myself going out to buy a new instrument but usually a situation does present itself to me. The new guitar that I acquired today was definitely one of those situations.

About five days ago, my friend Keith said that he knew someone that had some vintage recording equipment that he had. After a few e-mails back and forth, he told me of a guitar that he was selling that caught my interest. He had this Strat style guitar that was made by Pignose. Pignose isn’t exactly known for making guitars and this was a model that never got into full production. So, there aren’t a huge number of these around. Since I like unique instruments, I decided that this was the Strat that I wanted and Kate was gracious enough to let me have it.

Despite not being a very expensive guitar, the craftsmanship is actually quite good. The body is made of a single piece of alder and the neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard. The original electronics weren’t that great but this particular guitar had already been modified with a complete upgrade in that area. All in all, I’m pretty damn happy with it.

I spent quite a bit of the afternoon fiddling around and it feels quite different in my hands than my Les Paul. It’s certainly going to take some getting used to. That’s just fine with me. Getting to know a new friend is always fun.
