Katsucon 18 has been completed and I’m now back in the studio. Kate and I had a great time but we’re both pretty exhausted from our adventure. With that being the situation, there will be no regular comic today but I do have a little thing I worked on while at the convention which you can see below.

It’s always great to see some cosplayers who take the time to do something special with their costume. This particular Jack Skellington was done particularly well since he had the extra long legs as well as the arms. Below are some more pictures from the the convention including some other costumes that I liked.

When Kate and I work in the Artists Alley at a particular convention, we don’t see much else during the entire weekend. You wouldn’t believe how much energy it takes to sit and smile at a table all day! When I heard that Izumi Matsumoto was going to be attending, I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet someone who has inspired a general of manga/anime artists. Izumi Matsumoto is the artist behind one of the most popular titles in the 80′s called Kimagure Orange Road. While I have not seen the anime or read the manga of this one, I’m quite familiar with it’s influence from talking to my friend, Fred Gallagher. So, I was rather happy to get a lovely sketch to put up in my studio.

Not only did I get a sketch/autograph from Izumi-sensei but I also picked up some signatures (and a CD) from some members of the J-rock band Kazha. I happened across them while I was wandering around the Artist’s Alley where they had a temporary table set up for a few hours. I also picked up a CD from another Japanese group called Kiryu. I’m not actually familiar with either of these bands but I always try to introduce myself to new music when I’m at a convention since I believe in supporting my fellow musicians.

Anyway, Katsucon 18 was a great success for BS/OD and we’ll surely try to make it back next year. The Artists Alley had a great layout and it was nice to have things in a room that got locked at night. Kudos to all those in charge of the convention! We’ll see you next year!
