When the start of a new anime season arrives, I usually pick a couple of new shows to follow. One of my choices this spring was rather obvious but the second one was a bit of a surprise. I’m still watching a number of other series that fall in my ‘regular’ list which puts me following about six to eight shows.
I’ve been looking forward to K-On!! since it was announced. I really enjoyed the first series with it’s lovely artwork and surprisingly good music. The new episodes are living up to my expectations and I was happy to see the addition of a little turtle to the cast.
Angel Beats is another series that caught my eye. While this show has some oddball humor, it seems to have a decent amount of drama to balance things out. Each character seems to have their own story which gives Angel Beats more depth than the average show. I’m rather curious to see how things progress.
So, if you keep up with current anime, what are you watching this season?

So both Angel Beats and K-On!! were immediately on my list to watch this season, but I've picked up just about anything that wasn't a sequel to shows I haven't seen yet. Among the shows I have picked up are Kaichou wa Maid-sama (the class pres is a maid), Arakawa Under the Bridge and B Gata H Kei.
There are others, but they're not family friendly… hell, B Gata H Kei is the odd ball ecchi series I'm watching right now. Angel Beats has me wondering what Maeda Jun will come up with and K-On!! simply had me at "K-" I'm also watching continuations from last season, namely Durarara! since it's a 24 episode show.
Yeah, I'll be keeping up with Durarara! as well. Like Angel Beats, it has a strange sense of humor but it also balances itself out quite well with the drama end. Shows that pull that off are usually the ones that end up grabbing my attention.
I've checked out all of these, but I think my current favorite is Working!, which is a workplace comedy as the name implies. It takes place at one of the family style restaurants and has a truly eclectic group of characters. Perhaps not quite as weird as Arakawa under the Bridge, but consider – the extremely short but fairly buxom teenage waitress who brings in the new waiter who is interested in her because he likes small cute things (and is a lolicon to a pretty scary level) and the extremely androphobic waitress who pretty much punches the waiter whenever she encounters him, but wonders why he doesn't like her when she is trying so hard to talk to him even though she hates him. The last waitress walks around everywhere with a sword hanging from her belt, but never actually acknowledges it and makes it hard for people to bring it up. From the preview there should be more about her in the third episode when that airs. She is an extreme fan of the female manager who is pretty much disinterested in doing her job, but will readily kick any customer or employee who calls her old. It's a strange ensemble.
