So, the past few days or so have been rather interesting. With the storm rolling in on Friday night, we knew that it could get nasty. So, I decided to run out and pick up a Christmas present for Kate and I. Well, more like a present for me but I’m hoping that Kate will get some use out of it too. What did I get? A Playstation 3! I’ve been wanting one for a while to replace my old DVD player since we got an HD TV last year. There’s also several PS3 exclusive games that I want to play at some point.
After getting home from my local Gamestop, I noticed that the box that contained my new PS3 looked like it had been opened previously. Sure enough, I hooked it up and it had several saved games on it. I was kind of annoyed that they tried to sell me a returned PS3 as a new unit. Instead of going back to the same store, I went to a different one exchanged it for what I was hoping was a brand new one. One thing is for sure, I’m no longer shopping at the Chantilly Gamestop. This is the 2nd time that I’ve had issues with that store.
Before returning home, we decided to have some dinner since both of us were quite hungry. As we returned to the car after our meal, I realized that I no longer had my keys. Luckily, we only stopped at a couple places inside the mall that we were at and I hoped that my keys were in one of those places. Sure enough, they fell out of my jacket pocket during dinner. Disaster avoided!
The snow started falling as we drove home. I was kind of excited to see it snow for the second time this season since we didn’t get much of the white stuff over the past couple winters. I like snow. I really do. Little did I know just how much we were going to get.
The weather man was predicting that that were going to get five to ten inches. Now, that’s not too bad. It’s a decent amount of snow fall for Northern Virginia but it doesn’t cause too much of a catastrophe. As the night quickly progressed, the projection went up significantly. Now they were saying we could get up to two feet.
Kate and I woke up the next morning to find that we had gotten about five or six inches so far. To make it easier on ourselves, we decided to start digging ourselves out so that it would be easier to do so later on. After working outside for a while, I realized that it was kind of a futile operation since the snow was falling quite heavily at that point. Once back inside our somewhat warm house, we decided we would wait till the storm was over to shovel any more snow. I kind of wish that our laziness hadn’t taken over so quickly but that’s how things go sometimes.
Around 1:30pm on Saturday, it looked as if we had gotten about a foot of snow so far. You can check out a video of it here. I had no desire to go back out in that. Not yet. Our neighbors were a little more proactive than us when it came to keeping up with the powdery white stuff. Even though I knew they had the right idea, I wasn’t inspired enough to join them.
The snow slowed down around 9pm that night but it didn’t really quit till some time in the middle of the night. We woke up the next morning and were staring at two feet of snow. I whimpered knowing that it was going to be hell digging ourselves out and I was right.
Kate headed out first around 10:30am on Sunday and I joined her about fifteen minutes later. Here’s some video of it. It took us around two hours just to clean up our front steps, sidewalk and Kate’s car. I decided that I had enough and that my truck could just stay buried for a few days. It’s Tuesday and I’m still feeling a little sore over the ordeal.
So, it’s December and we’ve already had one major snow storm. This means that we could very well have a repeat performance of this past weekend’s Snowmageddon (Kate coined that phrase). As I said before, I love snow but this much snow is nothing but a hassle. At least we’re going to end up having a white Christmas. It’s been ages since I’ve had one of those.
