Ask any geek what OS they use and you might get an ear full on why they believe it’s the best. The same can be said about any sub group of software, though. Pro Tools vs. the world. Lightwave vs. 3D Studio Max. Just about every major software package has their fan boys who will defend what they use to the death. While I do have quite a bit of product loyalty myself, the lengths people go to grand stand about any particular application drives me crazy sometimes.

It’s not difficult to find negativity on the web these days. Many of the forums I participate in are flooded with flamers and trolls at one time or another. I make it a point not to add to all of that negativity by proclaiming one thing: Any tool is a good tool as long as it helps you get the job done.

Everyone has a particular way that they like to do things. While many people will just follow what the rest of the world does, there are a number of us who carve our own way to the finish line. Why is it that some people can’t respect that fact? It’s like getting laughed at for wearing some out of fashion outfit when you’re in high school. At least that’s how it feels to me.

So, use whatever program that fits your personal process. In the end, it’s not the fault of a piece of software if I write a crappy piece of music. If one of my comics turns out bad, I can’t sit there and blame it on anyone else but myself. Take responsibility for your own endeavors and you’ll have something to be proud of no matter what you do.
