Yesterday was an interesting combination of good and bad…

Kate and I decided to take in a matinee showing of District 9 since I had a free ticket that needed to be used.  I must say that it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time.  It kept you on the end of your seat the entire time and it was rather amazing how much sympathy you ended up feeling for the aliens.  The special effects were top notch and you never felt like you looking at a bunch of 3D generated monsters.  Everything about this movie was excellent and I highly recommend going to see it in the theater.

Before we left for the theater, I started the Snow Leopard upgrade process for one of my Imacs in the studio.  By the time we got home, all was finished and the machine was ready for me to give the new OS a test drive.  Needless to say, it didn’t go as well as I hoped.

While the the computer did respond much faster in a lot of applications, there were a number of glitches in some of the 3D programs that I use to create my comics.  I half expected there to be problems but I wanted to give it a try.  I normally don’t jump on the upgrade band wagon so quickly but I decided to this time since it was so cheap to get Snow Leopard.

Thankfully, restoring everything from time machine was rather simple.  I wiped the hard drive, reinstalled Leopard and then let it restore everything else from backups over night.  I woke up this morning and everything was back the way it was before I attempted to upgrade.

So, I’ll wait until software developers update things so that they’re compatible with the new OS.  I didn’t even attempt the upgrade on my other iMac since I know there are a number of issues with Snow Leopard and a few of the audio production programs I use.  I’ll be patient and wait.  It doesn’t really bother me that much.
